Old Port Engagement in Montreal, Quebec

Montreal's Old Port is a classic location to have engagement photos done, and I always find a way to give the gallery a unique twist! There are so many options for your special day, from lamplit strolls down the European streets, to drinks at a cocktail bar or coffee at a vintage cafe.

I always want these photos to be both beautiful and intimate, to be art and also tell the story of the people in front of me. One of the most interesting parts of my job as a photographer is that I see something completely different than what the couples see when we look at their photos. I see the colours and the cinematic feels, and the emotion that leaps from the photos. But people see their own personal connections when they look at their photos, things that I could never see, and they have their own reasons for loving some that barely made my cut and looking past others that I thought were stars in the gallery. That’s almost always true when I see which photos couples favourited, and Imane and Alexandre’s gallery was no exception!

We tried to start at a café next to the Notre Dame Basilica in the Old Port. When that one and the next one were full, we improvised and started our walk through the cobblestone streets, leisurely chatting and taking photos. We found a quieter but just as pretty café a few streets later, and ducked in for some matcha lattes, cozy portraits and to talk wedding day details. We knew each other a bit better after that, and it was easier for Imane and Alex to loosen and follow my prompts with honesty as we went down to the river. Once we reached the water, it was time for more fun prompts, like: SNOWBALL FIGHT! I think Alex in particular was a fan of that. And lots of embraces and kisses of course!

We finished the session against the backdrop of elegant Old Port architecture, where their humour and fun contrasted with the grace and neutrality of the columns. It was a beautiful session, and I was honoured to tell Imane and Alex’s engagement story.
